Uber drivers often face uncertainty when deciding whether to accept a ride

Factors like passenger behavior, destination risk, and potential earnings impact their decision-making. Our goal was to design a feature that provides drivers with better trip insights, increasing their confidence before accepting a ride.

User Research

Our primary users were Uber drivers, and through interviews and usability tests, we identified their main concerns:

  • Lack of trip transparency – Drivers often make decisions with limited information.
  • Uncertainty about passenger ratings and trip conditions.
  • Need for quick and clear insights without disrupting workflow.

Key Insights

Uber drivers feels not comfortable at work.

From our research, we discovered that:

  • Drivers feel more secure when given key trip details upfront (e.g., passenger rating, past feedback, estimated trip duration).
  • A risk indicator helps drivers make faster, more confident decisions.
  • Overloading drivers with too much data can cause decision fatigue, so simplicity is key.

How Might We

How can we help taxi driver feel safer before approving a ride?

The Solution

‘Securide’ - A passenger rating system based on data collection & analysis.

We designed a “Trip Confidence Preview” feature within the Uber Driver app that:

  • Displays passenger rating, past driver feedback, and trip duration before accepting a ride.
  • Introduces a risk level indicator based on trip data and driver preferences.
  • Keeps information concise and actionable, ensuring quick decision-making.

We followed a user-centered design process, ensuring every decision was based on real driver needs and feedback.

Conducted interviews with Uber drivers, analyzed online forums, and reviewed app store feedback to identify key pain points.

Brainstormed multiple concepts to address driver uncertainty and improve transparency before accepting rides.

Created low-fidelity wireframes and iterated to high-fidelity designs using Uber's design system.

Validated the solution with drivers to ensure clarity and ease of use, leading to final refinements.
